An Evening Botanist

The project moves between the logic of the operating room and the atmosphere of the night garden, considering how healing, desire, and touch shape the body and its surroundings. Sculptures, installations, drawings, and a video form a setting where medical gestures meet the intimacy of texture, scent, and closeness. Steel, bronze, plaster, soap, rose canes, wooden shafts, and grafting supports create a material environment marked by tension, care, and subtle risk.
The title draws from the early-twentieth-century term “evening botanist,” used for men who sought encounters in public gardens. Mallouris approaches this as a way of reading movement and anticipation, treating cruising as a bodily mode of sensing place.
An Evening Botanist opens Friday 5 December, 19:00, and remains on view 6 December 2025 – 17 January 2026.
